Hello, lovely people. I planned a review of ‘The Tourist’ by Olen Steinhauer today. However, life. So, I’ll get this posted as soon as possible. In the meantime, I hope you all have a great day! While you wait – some roast peppers
I did my first round-up post in August and I really enjoyed reflecting on what’s happened over the month. So, I think I am going to make it a habit. I’ll share information about what’s happening in my life, on the blog, and this month’s reviews. So, without further ado – a September roundup. Personal milestones I love autumn. I love the weather, the colors, the flowers, the smell, everything about it! Also, I love arriving at work sweat free for a change! My first fall baking adventure was these Brown Butter Pumpkin Oatmeal cookies, my next will be this Salted Caramel Apple Galette, both amazing recipes from Sally’s Baking Addiction. I know I normally recommend books, but let me please recommend this blog for all your baking needs. Her recipes are amazing and so clear. My husband and I checked out Connecticut for our next move (when/if we leave Jersey City) Blog milestones Completed my second full month of blogging Gained more followers/likes across Facebook, Twitter, and Tumblr I really need to work on my Instagram / Bookstagram, that’s an upcoming goal Wrote my first ‘reaction’ post Wrote my first “how to” post My first ‘advanced reader’ review Suckered […]
This Saturday will be my two month blogiversary. I started this blog one month before I turned 30 years old. I talked about, planned, and dithered, about being a blogger for over a year and at some point just needed to take the plunge. So now, one month past my 30th birthday, I wanted to give you an update on how it’s going. (Side note, can you believe that Google recognizes blogiversary as a real word?) Can I be honest with you? I feel like I can. I’m lacking a bit of motivation lately and struggling to keep enthusiastic and positive. I’m finding it hard to find the fun in blogging at the moment. So, I am writing this post to hope to find some fun. I am hoping having this little moan will be cathartic. Maybe another blogger out there will read this and have great tips and insight for how to get over this freshman slump. So, here are a list of things I am trying to get past the slump. Posting about being in a slump – Check, it’s happening now. Trying different types of posts – I have been looking into ‘tag posts’ and I […]
Howdy, September. I am now a one month old blogger, and I thought I’d share some ‘under the hood’ insights into my blogging fails journey. I mistakenly thought the most time consuming part of being a blogger would be writing the posts. Nope, not even close. Writing the posts is easy. It’s all of the admin that is hard. It’s time consuming and totally tricky. However, it is also so incredibly self-affirming when you figure something out. Nothing makes you feel as good realizing that in fact you are a tech god. So, I thought I’d share… …a selection of things that stumped me during my first month of blogging. Automating social share. All of my posts are scheduled ahead of time, and I wanted my social sharing to match-up. I work fulltime, so they only way this blog can function is with pre-scheduling. I played with a lot of different plugins and widgets, but the easiest thing was actually in WordPress itself. Photos were appearing the wrong direction. In the first theme I used the photos shot on my iPhone appeared incorrectly rotated. I tried everything to fix it but nothing worked. So, I changed themes and […]
It happened. I turned 30. For some reason, I can’t help but think of myself as the Grinch looking down into Whoville. I tried my best to fight this birthday. I did everything I could think of to delay it, but it happened anyway. A double kick in the stomach, I already had to fill out a form, before 8am with my age on it. GOSH forms, couldn’t you give me a little while to adjust? I haven’t even finished my coffee yet. Since this birthday train is moving, I guess I’d better get on board and enjoy it. Here is wishing all of you a Happy My Birthday. I hope your day is amazing.
Thanks for reading my first post on See Kate Read. It is 30 days until my 30th birthday. I’m dreading it a little bit. I wish I wasn’t. I’d rather be one of those “age is just a number” people, but 30 seems daunting. I found my first gray hair two years ago, and I have wrinkles on my forehead and around my eyes. However, I still don’t feel like a proper grown-up. I’m still renting an apartment, wear clothes from college, can’t figure out a flattering hair style, and eat cereal for dinner, a lot. I toyed with the idea of starting a blog for years. I have written posts on dozens of topics, getting ready to start a blog, but something always held me back. Laziness? Fear of failure? Wrong time? Well, I figure 30 is a good time to start. Plus, I absolutely love to read, so I am excited to enter and discover the online book community. In this blog you can expect to read book reviews, discuss reading technology/apps, hear embarrassing reading stories, and talk about the life and times of a dedicated reader. I hope you enjoy the content on this blog. If you do, […]
