Summer reading, skip the book just watch the movie

As a kid, I loved the day the summer reading lists arrived in the mail.  I would beg my mom to take me to go pick up my books immediately.  I loved how they would set up the table with all of the local school’s booklists and other recommended books. I would start reading my new books as soon as we got in the car, unable to wait to get home to crack into the new stories. Obviously, I was the kid who always did my summer reading.  However, I was surprised each and every year how many kids did not do the summer reading.  I simply could not image why anyone would want to skip the reading.  Skip the book, watch the movie During my sophomore year in high school we were assigned “The Natural” by Bernard Malamud.  At the end of the first week of school, we had to turn in a one page paper about the book.  Our teacher said since this was the first week of school, it would just be pass/fail.   Some of you know this, but it came as quite a surprise to many kids in my class.  Not only is The Natural a book, […]
